Welcome to Our Special Show

Apparently since T.Puzzle and Full Speed are thoroughly enjoying their summer vacation, they would like Mad Dog to join in their fun.  On a ride home from errands Full Speed asked me if I knew Mad Dog’s work number.

“Why?” I asked.

“Maybe we can call his bosses later and see if they will let your husband have a week off.  Then we can make him feel very special all week long,” he replied.

I liked his idea.  I also enjoyed how he referred to Mad Dog as my husband and not as Dad.  I think he was trying to be more formal sounding so Mad Dog’s bosses would take his request seriously.

I didn’t want to dampen the sincerity of his spirit so I quickly devised a plan.

“Why don’t we make a video for Dad’s bosses and we can send it to Dad to share with his bosses later?”

T.Puzzle and Full Speed were quite happy with this notion.  They enjoy the art of video as much as a wrestling smack-down.

Here is the result:

Moneybags

The boys and I were discussing family trips past, present and future.  Full Speed shared that he would like to go to Hawaii someday.  I explained that this is a very big trip and a lot of planning and saving would have to go into to it.

“Mom, I know what we can do!  You can use all the money I have in my piggy bank!  It’s a lot so we should have plenty.  I don’t mind letting you use it.  I know how you and Dad use all your money for the games at Chicago Pizza.”

Looks like I better pack some bags.

Generosity of Spirit

When we receive important news, we often are able to describe in detail where we were and what we were doing when first learn of it.

It was 10:14 a.m.  I was seated at the computer checking emails.  I had on shorts and a printed purple tank top that I had worn to my morning workout.   It was sunny and the heat of the day was beginning its usual build-up.  I wore no make-up, my hair was scrunched back in a haphazard ponytail and my brow was furrowed with concentration as I scrolled through my inbox.  I heard my phone beep to alert me of an incoming text.

Grandma wanted to know if she could take both boys overnight.

Do mothers like cocktails?  Is summer hot in Florida?

I was feeling so generous of spirit after this offer I was willing to give her the whole weekend with them.

Who knows, I may even let her have them for all of July.

I’m that generous.

Ahoy Mateys!

Yesterday afternoon was a ‘guys’ only situation. That means Mom was in heaven.

Mad Dog wanted to take them deep-sea diving?

Great.

How about ATV chicken fights on the beach?

Why not?

And, my personal fave, there was always the option of plundering the shores of Florida with pirates.

I say go for it.

All I asked was that no limbs were compromised and both boys were returned to me alive.

Washed Up

Having been away from home for several days, I was glad to get back to my boys.  There’s something about routine and familiarity that can cushion an aching soul from the ups and downs of life.

However, I was not glad to get back to laundry.

While I was away, a strange thing happened.  Mad Dog became slightly obsessed with keeping the house clear of dirty laundry.  He even promptly threw the boys’ swim wear in the washer when they returned from their lesson.

I don’t know how long he will continue this obsession.

My guess it will be as short-lived as my absence.
