Ahoy Mateys!

Yesterday afternoon was a ‘guys’ only situation. That means Mom was in heaven.

Mad Dog wanted to take them deep-sea diving?

Great.

How about ATV chicken fights on the beach?

Why not?

And, my personal fave, there was always the option of plundering the shores of Florida with pirates.

I say go for it.

All I asked was that no limbs were compromised and both boys were returned to me alive.

Rules of the Road

The next time we head out on a road trip I need to devise a list of rules such as the following.

1.  Do not throw any objects whatsoever at Mom’s head whether in a vehicle or on land.  Better make that on horse, in a boat, in a go-kart, and at a magic show, too.

2.  Wrestling is allowed because with two boys it is inevitable.  However, wrestling 24/7 is not great.  Try to limit wrestling smack-downs to only eight per day.

3.  Try to go against Mommy instint at least fifty percent of time.  For instance, if I had followed my initial gut reaction at the riding stables, Full Speed would not have had the amazing experience of riding a horse all by himself:

4.  And lastly, always appreciate the opportunity you have been given to travel, have new experiences and spend time with the people you love.

School Running

On the ride to school I tried to imagine at what age I will allow the boys to take their bikes by themselves.  I have a feeling this is a long ways off.

I asked them both what they thought.

“I don’t know, Mom,” said Full Speed.

“I could run to school right now,” said T.Puzzle.  “I’m really fast.”

Why didn’t I think of that?

So I pulled over and let him out.

Boy, that kid can run.

Ok, not really, but it made me smile picturing my determined four year old hoofing it the two miles to school.

Think of all the gas I’d save!

Washed Up

Having been away from home for several days, I was glad to get back to my boys.  There’s something about routine and familiarity that can cushion an aching soul from the ups and downs of life.

However, I was not glad to get back to laundry.

While I was away, a strange thing happened.  Mad Dog became slightly obsessed with keeping the house clear of dirty laundry.  He even promptly threw the boys’ swim wear in the washer when they returned from their lesson.

I don’t know how long he will continue this obsession.

My guess it will be as short-lived as my absence.

Tantrum #437?

Full Speed reading to T.Puzzle. A beautiful thing.

With Mad Dog away this week things can get a little hairy around here.  I tend to be slightly more stressed which in turn means my boys are out to get me.  Well, not really.  It only feels that way.  My stress adds to their stress.  The only difference is that the world sanctions their tantrums.  Mine?  I have to keep to myself or share lovingly with my husband when he returns home.  Lucky him.

T.Puzzle has not disappointed this week.  He is in top, tantruming form.

I have seen so many of these episodes over the years I have lost count.

Or it’s possible my boys have worn me down so much, I have lost my ability to count.

I’m not sure.

Maybe I should throw a tantrum about it.
